Bill C. Ray, painter, graphic artist, stage designer and writer, was born in Juneau (Alaska) in 1951. He studied at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland), painting and designing with John Landry and Bruce Geyman in Washington, D.C., from 1978. He worked as a set designer at the theatre in Juneau from 1979. In 1984 Ray moved to New York, where he absorbed the artistic expressions of various historical periods through museum visits and private study. In 1988 he visited Europe and moved to Berlin in 1991. Since then, he has lived here with his wife and son. His art emerges from the combination of Berlin life, imagination and the memory of Alaska. Since 1999, he has also been working with the Arena Stage Theatre in Washington, D.C.
