Ken Done was born in Sydney on 29.06.1940, left school at 14 and attended the National Art School in East Sydney, where he studied for five years. He began a highly successful career as an art director and designer in New York, London and Sydney. At the age of 40 and after being actively involved in painting for many years, he ended his success story in advertising to devote himself entirely to his passion from then on. Ken Done has become one of Australia's most celebrated artists since his first solo exhibition in 1980, and his paintings are in collections worldwide. Over 100 solo exhibitions in Australia, Europe, Japan and the USA have attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors, and in Japan alone, over 200,000 art enthusiasts saw a major touring exhibition. The first European exhibition took place in Paris in 1996. Ken Done has been involved with charities (especially underprivileged children) for many years and has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF since 1988. In many parts of the world, Ken Done has become a symbol for Australia and Australians: creative, optimistic and courageous.
