Ursus Amicus
My creature stretches its forelegs towards the sky – in a burst of playful joy, in utter despair, or is it a serious gesture of threat?
Its waist is red and adorned with twelve heads: portraits of all the old banknotes from East and West Germany, now already forgotten by many – yet still important witnesses of a once-divided, now reunited Germany.
They seem to whisper to us with a wink: “Money makes the world go round” – then as now.
Its lower body is gilded: it's hard to tell whether it is leaving a golden age behind or heading straight into one.
That answer is left to the viewer’s gaze.
